I chose to make the cheeseburger and seasoned fries recipes. The reason why I chose the recipe was because I wanted to make a really good satisfying comfort meal. Making cheeseburgers and fries is very simple and easy. I portioned my meals as well so I figured making this meal is fun and a win win for me. Everyday I make meals or eat meals that counts for 1200 at the end of the day, while I know this food can be usually very greasy and dense. This recipe is very flexible in terms of what I can modify.
Here is a photo of the original :
The modifications I made was to increase the amount of fiber by 5 grams and the decrease the amount of total fat by 50 percent.. Since cooking burgers and fries requires a lot of oil, just reducing it made more sense for the process. I also wanted to add more fiber to the burger because it felt like the burger can use a little kick to it. How I Initiated the change was by substituting the white hamburger buns with whole wheat buns. The whole wheat would give a boost of fiber as well as I added a slice of avocado to the burger. Having a good amount and source is very important because it can help lower your cholesterol and can help prevent the risk of heart disease. I lowered the amount of fat by decreasing the amount of oil in the burger as well as the fries, I cut down the oil by more than half. Too much oil and fat in the foods we eat can and will increase your blood pressure in a negative way. So its best to try to modify the little things in what we eat to help our bodies strive in the long run.
Here are photos of the fries and the burger while cooking:
Overall, making the new recipe was very fun and it went well because I knew what I was doing. Since I made the modifications and had time to over it, when it came to making it. The cooking time was also reduced as well in the process because it was much quicker. I would say one thing I can improve was maybe how I cooked the fries or could’ve added a tad more oil. When it came time to take the fries out oven the oven , it had a wonderful golden color. But pulling it from the foil, it kept sticking and breaking the fries which I believe because of the lack of oil. My advice for a reader who wants to make this at home is that the amount of oil matters for cooking fries the right way.
